Morning Routine & Attendance Chart
Since we are a family in this classroom, and we care about each other, we ought to know where everyone is in the building at all times. I have created a Morning Routine chart, hanging by the door. All of the students' names are listed on the right, attached with Velcro. Once the students enter the classrom, they will hang up their backpack and/or coat and then walk over to the Morning Routine chart. They will move their name to the left side of the chart, indicate their lunch selection (Sack lunch or Cafeteria lunch), and then find their seat. Whenever the student leaves the room (i.e., to the bathroom, volunteering in the cafeteria, the office, etc.), they will update this chart so the class remembers where they are.
Bellwork Assignment
Each morning there will be a posted assignment for the students to start working on right away.
Turning in Homework
After signing in to the Morning Routine Chart, the students will turn in their homework to the appropriate basket on Mr. Riedl's desk, labeled "Turn in homework here." If the student forgot to do their homework, then they will fill out a ‘Missing Homework Form’ to explain why the homework was not completed. That also goes into the homework basket.
Coming in Tardy
The student will enter the classroom quietly, sign in to the Morning Routine Chart, place the office note on Mr. Riedl's desk, and then find their seat. This is to be done in order to avoid disrupting the class that is already in session and reduce distractions.
Back to School After Being Absent
We want to look after each other in this classroom community, so if someone is absent, then we will have their homework or papers ready for them when they return. The
Secretaries will put an absent person’s paper into their mailbox. This is so that whoever is absent will not miss out on any handouts or information that we learned when they were gone. The
Absent Summarizer's responsibility is to fill out a sheet that summarizes what we did during the day in order to help the absent person to catch up when they return. So when the absent person comes back to school, they will sign in to the Morning Routine Chart, and then they will go over to their mailbox and find what they missed while they were gone. It will be this person’s responsibility to make up work they missed. Thankfully, because we are a good family and left them a note about what happened in class, then they won’t be lost.
Coming to Attention
The students will see me in front of the class with my hand up in the air. When they see my hand up in the air, that is the cue for the quiet-down procedure:
- Stop what you are doing
- Turn and look at the teacher
- Wait for instructions
There is a poster on the wall with these steps on it to remind them.
